MASTERCLASS PROGRAM
AUGUST 2010, in Maastricht, the Netherlands.

The Jekerstudio - Masterclass Acting for Singers offers young talented singers a unique possibility to acquire further acting skills, which are an essential part of a possible career in opera  / operetta.
In a well balanced course-program of ten days, singers are confronted with new and different ways of interpreting a role. The courses Text, Improvisation and Movement all make use of those elements which defines one’s presence on the opera stage: physics and movement, text and meaning, and music. These elements are used in the courses from different perspectives, which allows the participant to develop a wider range of acting skills and a larger independence on stage.

During the Masterclass the participant will work on combining acting with singing. Training the acting skills is emphasized in this masterclass, but the link with acting opera is made as often as possible. The classes consist of pure acting technique training (such as moving, text interpretation and improvisation), and intergration classes in which the participant will work on duets and arias, using the acquired skills from the technique classes.
The participant is continually challenged to explore his creativity. He learns to act on impulse and use these impulse to create more depth and credibility in his role.  
The courses are taught in the German or English language.

SELECTION OF CANDIDATES
Participants may apply themselves or can be invited by the artistic management of the Jekerstudio. Participants should have a bachelor-degree in music or a comparable level. There is no maximum age.
Participants need to accompany their registration with a resume, a motivation letter, a cd with two arias sung by themselves and, if possible, a recommendation letter. The artistic staff will determine, on this basis, who is to be admitted. During the Masterclass, participants will work on an aria as well as a duet. 

Former Jekerstudio Masterclass participants are now singing for major opera houses such as Deutsche Oper - Berlin, Nederlandse Opera - Amsterdam, Opera Darmstadt, Vlaamse Opera – Antwerp, Nationale Reisopera - the Netherlands , Opera Zuid - the Netherlands.
